Dwell

OVERVIEW

At Home in the (more) Modern World

Dwell is an award-winning publication that champions home design that improves people’s lives. I took on this conceptual redesign of their mobile app out of my own pain points with their digital experience offerings and wanted to pitch something that was ready to exist in the digital age.

I designed an entirely new mobile app that better reflected the forward-looking, humanistic stories Dwell features for its readers.

INTERFACE

Same Stories Under a New Roof

Dwell’s existing mobile app is a clunky PDF viewer of their print magazine with frustrating subscription synchronization, making it nearly impossible to read the articles I already paid for. For this redesign, I extensively researched product offerings from other print-first publications and united them with a mobile-oriented user experience.

IDENTITY

Making This House a Home

Dwell’s current brand identity is lacking an icon. This is not an issue for a print publication, but with a significant shift of energy towards the digital world, I recognized an opportunity to construct a logo that supports the existing wordmark. The result is a lettermark forming the letter “D”, drawing significant inspiration from single-pitched roofs found in midcentury home design.
